BBM Shutting Down - The End of An Era

Image
BBM Logo Anda berbicara Bahasa Indonesia? Baca terjemahannya di sini ! A month ago, a surprising (yet unsurprising) news arrived in my Google News: BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) is shutting down on May 31st, 2019. That brought me immediately into a nostalgic mood. BBM was the first mobile messenger I've ever tried, and it even brought me the first experience of using a smartphone, which then turns me into a technology enthusiast like today. So yes, I had a bit of history with BBM. Today, I think I'm going to pay a tribute to BBM by telling what I know about what used to be the only mobile messenger. What Made Me Use BlackBerry Messenger When I was in high school (probably around 2009), Indonesia was hit with BlackBerry fever. The brand suddenly skyrocketed and everybody had one. Even those who hadn't a single interest in the platform was forced to use it, because everybody used BBM at the time. Even until some time after Android and iOS have hit the market, many pe...

Fixing Blend Can't be Opened on Mac

Image
Blend's Hero Image. Courtesy of BlackBerry If you're a BlackBerry 10 user, you ought to know about Blend, the latest feature BlackBerry offered as a part of their newest 10.3 OS update. If you don't know and you're a BB10 user, I suggest you look it up on Google, as it is a very useful piece of software, at least for me. In case you don't know or don't want to look it up now, Blend is a software that connects with your BB10 handset running OS 10.3 or above (via USB, Wi-Fi, or Mobile Network). Once connected, you'll be able to send emails, BBM, text messages, and look at your calendar. You'll also be able to view your Hub, Contacts, and Files in your connected device. Sounds neat, doesn't it? What's better is that the software is also available for iPads and Android Tablets, aside from MacOS X and Windows. As much as it is a useful software, it is still new, and improvements are needed here and there. One example is for Mac. Some of you migh...

Logging Out of BlackBerry ID (Prior OS7)

Image
BBID Logo I'm a long time BlackBerry user and I've been using BlackBerry since their 9700 line. Unfortunately, I started using BlackBerry not because I'm intrigued with their secure system. I was drawn to BlackBerry because of BBM boom in my country. Sure, I like their unique design and their comfy keyboards (I've got to admit that they make the best keyboard in the mobile market) and that's why I'm wielding a Q10. But my experience with it hasn't always been as smooth as silk. Aside from their laggy and buggy BBOS (sorry, Folks. I'm just telling my experience), one thing I hate the most is their BBID system aside from the hourglass problem. Even in BB10 they haven’t fixed this issue. The primary reason I hate it is because once you’ve signed in, you’ll never sign out unless you perform a security wipe. Sounds like trouble for just signing out from an ID, right? Heck, even Apple and Android let you switch their proprietary accounts. However, there...

BlackBerry: Rising Up? (And My Smartphone History)

Image
Well, I know that this sounds like a fanboy article, but the truth is... I'm looking for a topic to write, since I've become quite bored on my limited holiday. There are tons of tasks I wanted to do during the holiday, but just like most teenagers in my country, I've been procrastinating until the last few days of my precious holiday. I just want to share some of my stories. If you think this is a fanboy article, you're welcome to leave. But before that, please note that I'm sick of hearing fanatics defending their favorite brands. It's just a company, geez. If they make good products, good for you. If they don't, then don't waste your time defending it or aimlessly point out other products' faults. Companies and competitions are there for our benefits. Imagine if there were just one company that produced all the smartphones in the world. There would be no innovations, would there be? Anyway, I've written this piece after having experienced (...

BlackBerry External Charger Review

Image
BlackBerry Battery Bundle Press Shot Ah, it's been a while since I wrote my last review in this blog. Well, that's because I don't have anything new to review, and the time to write it. College life has made me crazy... Anyway, I'm back to the review world with this accessory made especially for BlackBerry. I know that in less than 10 hours, this thing will be obsolete thanks to the new BB10 but heck, upgrading isn't everyone's cup of tea. I'm planning to keep my good 9930 until BB10 is proven solid, and has a QWERTY keyboard. BlackBerry isn't BlackBerry without the best QWERTY keyboard in the market. And so, I think God also supports my plan for not upgrading :p. A few days ago, I found this little thing on my father's desk. It was... fortunate, very, since I was looking for a way to charge my spare battery on the go. I asked him if I could have it, and he said yes, which gives me that childish smile in my face :p. What's unfortunate was...
